Today is National Women’s Day. The one woman that I need to thank for the path my career has taken is Benita Dellelce. There are so many girls, great women out there that have developed some fine skills because of her. I went to Charm Plus at 13 years old. I learned table manners, poise, confidence, makeup, nail care, and etiquette. I was a “tom-boy” at the time. I took the path from being in her classes to being a makeup artist and hairstylist. Later, I began my own bridal business, and I sure needed my charm, poise, and etiquette for that career. I know a lot of Charm Plus ladies are with me on this one – that Benita was a fantastic teacher!

Hey Sudbury friends. This isn’t just all about modeling….Being part of Charm Plus in my “younger days” ended up being one of the best things I did. The skills that Benita Dellelce taught have been a gift that I continued to use throughout my life. The tween and teen years can be a challenge and Charm Plus helped foster confidence in the years to come.

“A Charming Start to Excellent Customer Service Skills
Ode to a good friend and mentor Benita Dellelce”
“At the age of 13, same height 5’10”, and a smaller model-like stature, I would catch the public transit after school from Chelmsford to the corner of Elm and Elgin street to work my first official job(not just babysitting) as a secretary at Charm Plus. No jeans, no chewing gum allowed in this role, dressy and classy all the way which conflicted slightly with my sporty style at school. A typical shift started off running errands around downtown including quick coffee grabs, dry cleaners, and other pick-ups.
I will admit, downtown was a little overwhelming at the naive age of 13 and TopHats arcade scared the charming crap out of me as I scurried by in a skirt and high heels. Aside from running errands, I answered the telephone, accepted class payments, wrote receipts, responded to general inquiries, assisted with modeling and etiquette classes, cleaned around the school, and manned the front desk. The courses I took at charm plus Benita taught me to properly set a table, host a party, apply makeup, strike a pose for a photo shoot, work the runway, dress the part, and meet and greet some of the finest Sudburians at community events. Every job I have worked since requires a strong element of customer service skills and this job was the first taste of what it takes to relate to the public/customer. Thanks, Benita, you taught me a lot.
